What's the story behind Battlefield 2042?

Due to climate change and other issues, the world has entered a chaotic state of war after several catastrophic events. Due to the "Kessler Effect", a large number of satellites in Earth's orbit collide in a series, sending the ground into chaos. More than 70% of satellites were destroyed, and positioning and communication services were almost non-existent. As supplies become scarce, conflict between Russia and the United States over food and resources intensifies. Storms and other climate anomalies are becoming more extreme, forcing forces calling themselves the Boneless to fight for both sides of the conflict.

As the Earth's climate has collapsed in 2042, catastrophic weather has become part of the game.
